About me

I’m Will - a veterinary surgeon turned freelance marketing consultant, with over 20 years of experience in the animal health industry. I started my clinical career in companion animal practice, working across general, referral, and teaching settings which has provided me with solid insight into the needs of veterinary professionals and pet owners. Since then, I have worked in a variety of technical, marketing, and management roles within several animal health companies from small start-ups to large multi-national corporations.

Today, I help brands in the animal health space communicate with clarity, credibility, and a touch of creative flair.

Why the name Little Red Dog?  Every time I thought of a good idea either the name was taken, or the associated website URL was crazy expensive, or both! Unfortunately, around that time we lost our beloved cockapoo Chester unexpectedly at the age of only seven. He was full of cheeky charm, fiercely intelligent and adored by all that met him- Chester is very much missed so it became a no brainer to name the business after him.

Little Red Dog is my way of honouring Chester’s spirit: curious, loyal, and full of character. It’s also a reflection of how I work - blending clinical insight with strategic thinking and always aiming to bring warmth and authenticity to the brands I support.

Here he is on his 7th birthday, with his little brother Albie - it seems we have a thing for little red dogs!

My experience

  • Over the years, I’ve helped shape strategic direction for a range of animal health brands - from early-stage launches to revitalising established portfolios. I’ve built business cases, restructured internal processes, and worked closely with senior teams to align commercial goals with market realities. My approach is always grounded in data, but driven by clarity and creativity.

  • I’ve managed everything from niche technical products to large multi-SKU portfolios, overseeing positioning, pricing, lifecycle planning and stakeholder engagement. Whether it’s a prescription treatment, nutraceutical, diagnostic aid or device, I focus on making the brand meaningful - to veterinary professionals, pet owners, and the teams behind it.

    These brands have occupied specialities such a toxicology, ophthalmology, neurology, pain management, equine, gastroenterology and dermatology to name a few.

  • I’ve led the launch of a diverse array of veterinary brands, across B2B and B2C markets. From concept to execution, I’ve built campaigns that combine clinical credibility with commercial impact - whether it’s a new therapeutic, a diagnostic aid, or a seasonal awareness push. One national dental health campaign I re-launched resulted in a 530% increase in product sales, a 12% rise in market share, and a 600% boost in online engagement.

  • I’ve organised and led teams at dozens of congresses and trade shows, ensuring every appearance is purposeful and well-executed. I’ve also participated in several national sales meetings and training events, helping teams connect with the science behind the strategy and the story behind the brand.

    In addition, my role as Chair of the Veterinary Marketing Association means I lead their annual awards event, a pinnacle of celebration within the animal health industry.

  • We live in a digital world and this must be part of any marketing strategy. With extensive experience leading website and social media strategy, managing paid advertising spend (e.g., Meta ads, PPC), and CRM and analytics, digital initiatives have always been a core part of my work.

  • With a clinical background, I’ve trained sales teams in complicated areas of clinical practice, simplifying complex topics without losing depth. I’ve delivered technical presentations at major congresses, managed pharmacovigilance reporting, and supported internal systems to ensure clarity and compliance.

    I’ve always placed high value on established relationships with key opinion leaders - managing those connections with care, credibility, and consistency. Whether supporting product launches, shaping messaging, or gathering market insight, I know how to engage the right voices and bring them on board.
